Lone Oak tennis coach Larry Heflin has been
named the National High School Athletic Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year
in his sport at the 43rd annual meeting in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Heflin was chosen from eight candidates in tennis and was one of 18 winners
in the NHSACA annual awards banquet.
The award recipients are evaluated on longevity, professional service,
win-loss percentage, championship years, and professional awards. Every state in
the nation is provided opportunity to nominate candidates for evaluation for the
award.
Heflin has coached the Lone Oak program for 35 years winning nine Kentucky
girls championships and finishing runners-up six times. He has been named the
state Coach of the Year multiple times and won the Garnis Martin Outstanding
Coach Award in 2006, awarded annually by the Kentucky High School Athletic
Director’s Association and the Kentucky High School Coaches Association.
